最近ずっと考えていたんだけど、ここ50年近く、ほとんど変わらないタイプのギターが使われ続けている。もちろん細かい工夫はあったかもしれないけれど、結局は「みんなが愛する定番ギター」がだんだん固定化されていくばかりで、本当の意味で革新的な進歩ってあまりなかったように思う。そんな中、今回フルカーボン製の「Ruf Guitar」を紹介する仕事をいただいて、ついに「未来」を感じるギターに巡り合ってしまったんだ。
確かに、音楽そのものはメロディやスタイルが常に進化している。でも、ギターそのものはずっと昔の価値観で止まってしまっている印象があったし、昔の音楽やギターアイドルにずっとしがみつくような風潮があると、どうしても時代は前に進みづらい。
そんな中で出会ったRuf Guitarは、正直、畏敬の念すら抱くほど。出会えたことが本当に嬉しい。
まず驚いたのが、木材ギターでは実現できない、超ロングなサスティーン。今までも木材以外で作られたギターはあったけれど、ここまで明確な「音のメリット」を感じたのは初めてかもしれない。数年前は自分自身、昔の音色に憧れていたからこそ新しい良さに気づけなかったのかも。あるいはコロナを経て「変わらなきゃ」という意識が強まり、新しいギターミュージックが台頭してきたからかもしれない。理由ははっきりしないけど、とにかく「次世代感」がすごいんだ。

音楽シーン全体を見ても、打ち込み全盛の時代が少し落ち着いてきて、またギターを中心にしたサウンドが再注目されている気がする。今までジャズでしか使わないような複雑なコードや響きをポップスやロックに取り込み、ギターが主役の新しい音楽が増えてきている。Ruf Guitarはそんな新しい時代にぴったりだ。複雑な和音でも濁らず、まっすぐで美しい響きを出してくれる。正直、ほかでは聴いたことがないサウンド。
さらに、木材や金属の質が下がりつつある昨今、いい木材や良質な金属を手ごろな価格で手に入れることが難しくなってきている。昔は当たり前だったことが、今では当たり前じゃなくなっているわけだ。しかもネット通販の普及で、わざわざ楽器店に足を運ばない人が増え、配送時の振動で細かい傷がつくことが問題になっている。Ruf Guitarは丈夫で壊れにくいから、そういった新しい流通環境にもマッチする。

I’ve come across an absolutely astonishing guitar.
I’ve been thinking about this for a while: for nearly 50 years now, we’ve been using more or less the same type of guitars. Sure, there might have been some small tweaks along the way, but overall, the concept of the “classic beloved guitar” has just gotten more and more set in stone, without any truly groundbreaking innovation. But now, I’ve been given a job to promote a full-carbon “Ruf Guitar,” and I feel like I’ve finally encountered the future of guitars.
Yes, musical melodies and styles keep evolving, but as for the instruments themselves, they often seem stuck in the past. When we cling too tightly to old music or idols, it becomes hard for the times to move forward.
That’s why meeting the Ruf Guitar felt almost awe-inspiring. I’m genuinely happy I got the chance.

But with the Ruf Guitar, you can just add a bit of compression or delay, and boom, you’ve got a thoroughly modern and beautifully clean tone. The sound is refined right from the start.
Design-wise, it’s another revelation. The team includes someone who worked on space shuttle design and a PhD in ergonomics. The result? It’s incredibly comfortable to hold and super easy to play. The tuning pegs are arranged according to string gauge for easier tuning, and the back panel is magnetically attached for convenient maintenance. Honestly, I’m amazed no one thought of this earlier—it’s just that good.
